Your Business May be Obligated by Regulation


New Program Launches August 1, 2012
WINNIPEG – March 26, 2012 – Manitoba’s new industry-led electronic waste
stewardship program will start on August 1, 2012. In order to comply with the
province’s Electrical and Electronic Equipment Stewardship Regulation,
obligated Stewards in Manitoba can register with Electronic Products
Recycling
Association (EPRA) Manitoba. (recyclemyelectronics.ca/mb)
The Electronics Products Recycling Association (EPRA), is the non-profit entity
chartered with improving the efficiency of regulated e-waste reclamation and
recycling processes. Members of Electronics Product Stewardship Canada (EPSC)
www.epsc.ca and the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) www.retailcouncil.org
established EPRA in 2011.
Designated products and their applicable Environmental Handling Fee (EHF) rates
have been harmonized with SWEEP (www.SWEEPIT.ca), Saskatchewan’s electronics
recycling program. The designated products and applicable Environmental Handling
Fee’s for Manitoba are available at recyclemyelectronics.ca/mb. The final
designated Product list will be contained in the EPRA Manitoba Stewards
Agreement, to be issued before May 1st.
Registration will take place online at recyclemyelectronics.ca/mb . This
registration will start May 1st, 90 days prior to program launch. Point-of-Sale
counter cards and other consumer education/awareness materials are currently
under development and will be available prior to the launch.
EPRA Manitoba will send follow up e-mails related to the steward’s agreement
availability, and again when the online registration becomes available.
